XMAS GIFTS

Tis the Season for giving, and the odds makers seem to be giving us some nice gifts this week.. The blog will be shorter this week as my staff is on vacation..  My staff infection that is!   So we will forego the dwelling on the past thing, other than to say that we had one win and 3 ties last week!  Thank goodness we can count on the redskins to suck.  And now if we can just count on them one more week, I might even pick a Cowboy game for the first time this year!      
 

This week’s Holiday NFL and Bowl Picks including the Holiday Bowl
 
 (NFL first)
1. Houston -3 over and @ Miami 

Both teams desperate, but Miami is at home and Houston is the better team. That makes them even as i see it, so take the Texans and the 3pts. (of course, I don’t see as well as I used to! )
 
2.  Dallas + 4 over and @ Washington   

Maybe these 2 teams will play like they are supposed this week, making my first Cowboy pick an easy one.  Or maybe I will jinx the Boys by picking them.. The redskins are pissed off and in turmoil, and don’t know who their leader is .  But, they are home in DC.  Of course, alot of people in DC are pissed, in turmoil and don’t know who their leader is!
 
3.Minnesota -7 over and @ Chicago..  

The Vikings are also pissed after not bothering to show up last week against Carolina,  and the Bears are at home in the friendly confines.  But they are also hibernating for the winter and may not even come out of their holes..

4. So Cal -8 over BC   

The  last place the men of Troy thought they would be is in SF for the holidays. (Trojans..SF.. fill in your on joke here).. And they might be mad and take it out on the poor BC Eagles.  Who are glad to get out Boston in the Winter.   The last time Southern Cal wasn’t in a BCS bowl, Pete Carroll’s hair was dark..
 
5. Nebraska +1.5 over Arizona    

The Holiday Bowl is usually the best game of the Bowl season with lots of scoring. Well, not this year.. No game involving the CornHuskers has lots of scoring. They can’t score and niether can the other team.   Nebraska and their Boy name Suu made a believer out of all of us against Texas.  So go Nebraska, Shuck ’em Huskers.
 
6.  Oklahoma -7.5 over Stanford   

Now I am betting on the other Stoops Brother to win.    The Sooners season to forget comes to a merciful end with a win, and Stanford’s season to remember comes to an end with a loss..  Two things going for the Cardinal. First they are out of Luck.,(their freshmen QB Andrew Luck probably can’t play)  and second, unlike the Trojans, the Stanford players may have to study..  The Trojans might be out partying though. Oh wait, they are from LA and the game is in El Paso so they probably won’t leave their rooms. 
 
7.  Navy + 6.5 over Missouri    

The Midshipmen have 3 major things against them. They are small, slow and white!  Everyone should beat the hell out them. But no one really does…. Right Notre Dame?  
 
Holiday Thought for All.. The Holidays are the perfect time to Surround yourself with Family and Loved ones……. Or better yet, lock yourself in a room and watch more football!

1. The Loss — The Raiders over the Skins  
The Redskins decided to show up.  Unfortunately so did Demarcus Russell. The Raider’s Over Achieving, Low Round Draft Choice, 2nd String QB got hurt,  and they were forced to put in Russell, their Under Achieving, First Draft Choice, First String QB..It is a good thing some of his salary is guaranteed!
 
2. The 1/2 — NO over Atlanta   
Let me explain…..  I picked NO over Atlanta but the spread went way up after i picked them. Is that my fault, I ask you?  So they won, but didn’t cover the ending point spread.  So, I will put that down as a tie. I know what you are thinking….. who is making the rules here?  Me!
It is my blog and my ball, so there. 
 
The 2 Wins.. Yeah!
 
3.  GB over Chicago
Aaron Rogers was way better than Cutler, just as i said. (I told you so, I told you so.  One day I will grow up but then i may have to stop watching football and writing blogs……ain’t going to happen.)
 
4. Houston over Seattle
Finally the Texans played like they are capable of playing.  Unlike some other Texas Professional teams I could mention!
 
 
Picks for NFL — week 14
 
Can I just not make any picks this week?  The odds makers are just too damn good. None of the games looked good to me.  They nailed the odds on all of them.. Do I have to, Teacher?  Well, alright, here goes then.  But Ii wouldn’t bet the house on them if I were you…..Unless the house is already in foreclosure.  And then, I still wouldn’t. My friend, Vinnie, suggests arson instead.
 
1.  NE – over  and @ Buffalo
True, Buffalo is playing better and the game is in Buffalo.. or is it Toronto?  But New England needs to win, and Randy Moss needs to prove he isn’t loafing, and Belichick needs to prove he is a genius.  And Tom Brady needs to prove, well nothing.  He’s got it all and married to a super model to boot.
 
2. Philly @ home -7.5 over SF
Both teams playing well, but the Eagles need to win more in order to stay ahead of a certain under-achieving Texas team. Or, maybe they don’t! 
 
3.  Pittsburgh @ home -1 over GB
Actually, the Packers are the better team, but the Steelers are playing at home and are more desperate. And desperate people are dangerous!  Just ask my college dates!
 
4. The Giants -3 @ Washington   
The Skins are playing better and playing in DC.. But you just cant trust or count on them.  Just like the politicians who will be in the stands! These are 2 up and down teams..  Last week the Giants were down so should be up.  And last week the Skins were up so should be down.  Any questions……..

CRYING OVER SPILLED MILK

WEll… gang, at least we broke even last week!  So let’s see where we went wrong…….other than just trying to beat the spread to begin with!

Georgia Tech has come through for me several times because they do what they are supposed to do.. ( Are you listening U of H?)  They had the Tigers neutered.
 
5.  UConn over So Florida  
The Huskies did what they are supposed to do..beat the Bulls..
Are they are a lot of Bulls in Tampa?.. Grazing at the Beach?
 
6. Denver over KC   
The Broncos did what they were supposed to do and Bucked off the Chiefs..
Yes, I said Bucked off.    ( The Chiefs are a distant second in the race to have the most racially offensive nickname to, of course, The Redskins.)

1. GB – over and @ Chicago
GB send the Bears into early hibernation.   Both teams have good young QBs.. GB’s is about 26 and Chicago’s is about 12, and has an occasional tantrum.
But haven’t we all? 
 
2 NO over Atlanta  
It is true that the Saints are due for a loss.. And it is true that Atlanta should be pissed after that loss last week in which the Eagles came through Atlanta like Gen. Sherman and got so far ahead that they even put in hometown hero Michael To rub their noses in it.  (fill in your own dog pun here.)  But here’s guessing the Saints win anyway.
 
3. Houston at home -6 over Seattle    
The Texans finally play up to their talent level and the Seahawks play down to theirs.
 
4.Oakland + 1 at home over Washington  
Two really bad teams suddenly decided to play well for some reason..  But the Raiders have the edge at home.  Oakland scares the visiting team.  Actually, Oakland scares visitors too!  Have you ever been there?  Well, lets put it this way….. You feel safe when you see the Hells Angels
 
Thumbs Down to the BCS.. Again!  They screwed it up, of course.  Not the championship game.. Go Longhorns. Try not to get blown out.. But the Fiesta Bowl.. Everybody wanted to see how TCU and Boise would do against the big conferences. Not against each other..We saw that last year.  The BCS said.. why don’t we replay last year’s Poinsettia Bowl?  More BS from the BCS

Going Down like the Titantic!

A Quick Review of Last’s Week Disaster.. Or 3 Loses and a win and a Tie Aint Good
 Or why didnt i see the Iceberg Dead Ahead.  (Why am a doing this? bringing up old loses… just to punish myself.. I am sure i deserve it!)
 
1.Miami Over Buffalo.   Miami.. Good  Buffalo.. Bad  They decided to switch places. And switch they did. Faster than 2 cross dressers back stage between numbers at The Bird Cage.
 
2.Connecticut over Syracuse    Thank God for the Huskies.. They did what they were supposed to do and gave me my only win.. And as a reward, I am picking them again this week. I know they are thrilled.
 
Georgia Tech Over Georgia.  Who let the Dogs out? Woof, Woof, Woof, Woof.. The Engineers.. That’s who!  And as punishment i am.. Well i picking them again anyway this week, because they still have a hard Offense to figure out.. And a hard team to figure out.
 
4.Stanford over ND   This was the tie.. favored by 7.5.. they won by 7.. Just enough to get the ND coach fired. And get this writer fired.. Oh wait. that’s right.. I cant be fired.. No one is paying me..
 
5.Florida over Florida State… Come on Seminoles.. How you have fallen.. And you Cant  get up!  Or even  stay within 22 points of the Gators anymore..  Enough to get your coach fired too, but he beat them to the point and Quit.. No way for Bobby B. to go out.. One of the all time greats for sure..
 
 
  This Week’s LOCK SOLID Predictions.. Or your guess is as good as mine

1.   Denver -4 over and @ KC   Denver. Good team.. Bad QB  (actually not bad just banged up QB)  KC Bad Team  Good QB and Good Home Crowd..  Take the Good team with the Bad QB – 4 points over the Bad team with the Good QB and crowd and pray.
 
2.  UF -5 over Alabama   The game of the year in College Football!   But here’s guessing that Florida is still just a little bit better. How much better?  5 points.. that’s how much
better!
 
3 Georgia Tech Even money over Clemson.  I said that i would stick with Tech and i am loyal.. just ask my Ex-wives.. oh on second thought…  Both teams coming off loses and kind of slumping into the ACC championship game. Both pissed.  But GT is better team.. actually that is not true.. but again their Option Attack is hard to prepare for. Unless you are the Georgia Bulldogs..
 
4.  Connecticut -7.5 over South Florida   I said that I would stick with the Huskies and i am a man of my word.. just ask my ex..wiv..un never mind.. But they are playing inspired and at home..
 
5.  USC -7 over and @ Arizona   Oh how mighty SC has fallen. Seems the Trojans just cant keep it up.. ok fill in your own joke here.. But they should be pissed after humiliating losses and take it out on the Wildcats. It is time for them to make a statement.. or at least a short phrase or incomplete sentence..
 
6. U of H -1 over and @ East Carolina  The cougars are better than the Pirates, even though the game is in Greenville.. home of the Pirates.. Ok i have been to Greenville several times and it is about 100 miles from the ocean.. So how did they become the Pirates?  Did Black Beard land on the Carolina Coast 200 years ago and say.. Alright men lets leave our boats here ,and take the Interstate up to Greenville for a little Raping and Pillaging. Maybe got there and realized there were no women and said.. lets just go with the pillaging..  Just a guess.. Much like this week’s picks
